OUR STORY

‘CURREAS’
The Curreas Company is a result of the fusion of two distinct cultures. Images, experiences and memories of the colourful Caribbean and Hispanic art of Colombia combine with the simplicity, elegance and sophistication of Japanese art. Curreas delights each of our clients with beautiful and sophisticated pieces of art, while at the same time having a strong commitment to social responsibility.

'Designs'
Now is the time to present the first fruit of my inspiration. My ‘Cattleya’ collection is composed of fine and delicate Momposine filigree pieces in silver and gold. A story is woven into the threads of each piece from its conception in delicate design, to its elaborate manifestation. The designs have been inspired by elements of nature. Magnolias, cherry blossom, dewdrops, and the deep sea with its beautiful, delicate ripples are the main focus of the collection.

'Momposine Filigree Origins’
Momposine filigree jewellery has its origins in the region of Santa Cruz de Mompox, Colombia. In the XVI century, Spanish merchants combined their techniques of jewellery making with the zenú art of the native people of Mompox. As a result, Momposine filigree was born. Because of its geographical location and historical importance, Mompox was a centre of gold and silver trade, and therefore chosen as a base for the jewellers’ workshops.

‘The work of the artisans'
Jewellers from the Mompox region have cultivated this tradition since the sixteenth century, passing on their knowledge and refining their techniques from generation to generation. Momposine filigree is recognized as the art of weaving thin threads of gold and silver by hand. All phases of this wonderful process of creation are executed by hand, resulting in individual works of authenticity, originality and sophistication.

'Community Support Mompox'
We work with the group of artisans of the Mompox community in Colombia, and we believe in sustainable development and an ethical business system. A percentage of the purchase price from each of our products goes to the School of Mompox Artisans, Colombia. The School of Mompox Artisans has taken the creation of jewellery to a higher level, providing an opportunity for youth in the region to become high quality jewellers. Its programs include courses in technique, health and safety and management & administration. The existence of the school has been very beneficial to the region not only in cultivating this beautiful tradition, but also in offering greater opportunities to develop young people who love the craft and its history.
